Northern Exposure III

Nature is coming to life: that life which I so love, now and always, whose essence shall pervade everything which I compose.

- Jean Sibelius

The world was ravaged between 1914 and 1918, but Sibelius composed not with mankind's first modern mechanized war at heart, but the life-affirming Fifth Symphony, glowing with living magnficence and nature's sublime nobility.

In a world growing more connected - and more tense - by industry and technology, Finland's greatest composer demonstrated that modernism and intellectualism are not just the stuff of machines and science, but that a profound logic surrounds us in the air, in the earth, and in ourselves as children of nature.

In the final installment of the Northern Exposure series, The Philharmonic Orchestra (Singapore) brings you the crowning glories of Sibelius' finest symphonic masterpieces.

Come and experience his unique synthesis of dawn-song and twilight, swan hymns, the deep pulse of the earth and beauty's heartache in the Fifth Symphony; the ephemeral fragility of petals, water, life and the Sixth Symphony; and finally the transcendental majesty of the single-movement Seventh Symphony, a paramount among symphonies - "the grandest celebration of C major there ever was."
