About the event

Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven. The Big Three Classical masters. It is said that "a dwarf standing on the shoulders of a giant may see farther than a giant himself".

Yet there were other giants lurking in the midst.

Chip off the old block, from a Thuringian musical lineage - epitomy of the sensitive style.

The most popular opera composer of his time, writer of Nel cor più non mi sento, a tune Beethoven himself wrote variations on.

The teacher of Mozart, so misrepresented by Hollywood.

The forward-looking, heavily-decorated Conservatoire director, regarded by Beethoven as his ultimate contemporary.

The master of song whose genius Brahms described as that which "soars aloft so boldly and surely".

Let their voices be heard, five of the greats, even if they be Not the Big Three.
